Winnie grew up in a home where she learned to “Stretch every dollar” and is an avid collector of economical recipes and money-saving tips on a variety of topics, including gardening, preserving, cooking and baking.

In the 1980s, when grain prices plummeted and interest rates escalated, she spent a lot of time looking through her clippings to find new ways to save money. She began to create healthy yet inexpensive recipes!

She was thrilled with the amount of money she could save and knew other farm families were facing similar financial difficulties and would benefit from the wealth of information she had collected. She decided to publish some of her money saving tips and recipes in a book — a perfect way to earn extra cash and share her knowledge with others.

Winning Ways begins with..."Plant A Garden & Save." It is very important to choose the right spot, the right soil, fertilizer, moisture for a bountiful vegetable & fruit crop.

Companion planting will provide the right shade, heat and sun, repel certain harmful bugs and provide a better crop.

This book provides recipes for preserving some of your harvest by canning, drying or freezing so you can enjoy nutritious vegetables & fruits all year long for only pennies!

These preserves can be turned into delicious meals. . .

Turn apples into pies, cakes, jams, juice, fruit roll-ups and more.

Favorite recipes like Homemade Butterscotch Rhubarb Pie, Fresh Strawberry Pie, Apple French Toast etc.

Preserve your own apple pie filling!

But there is so much more!

Recipes using beans, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, corn, cucumbers, potatoes, pumpkins, spinach, bananas. blueberries, lemon, peaches, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, and more.

Recipes for making your own salad dressings, your own ice-cream and sherbet, teething biscuits.

In all Winning Ways contains more than 450 recipes, hints, instructions and ideas for thrifty households. As well it includes many ideas on planting a garden and having a bumper harvest.

Gramma Edel made such good dill pickles. Everyone raved about them. We family members never got tired of them and neither did our friends or anyone at church. I now use only that recipe and I decided to share it in this Winning Ways cookbook.

When the tomatoes are ripe and ready to preserve, we are busy taking in our harvest. I share all of the tomato recipes that we love in this cookbook, but on days when we are on the field, I freeze the ripe tomatoes whole. Then I throw them all into a large plastic bag and in the winter I will take them out to make tomato soup, sauce and juice.

But I do preserve over a hundred jars of tomato soup, sauce, salsa and juice to turn into our family favorites on very busy days.

Yes, enjoy much of the produce fresh and in recipes throughout the summer, but then preserve or freeze the remainder to use in many delicious recipes. Families will love these delicious recipes.

The fact that they can be very nutritious and inexpensive are added bonuses, keeping everyone healthy as well as save money.

It is not surprising that the book begins with gardening hints—Winnie’s garden is the main source of meals that she serves. Living in Manitoba, she has learned the importance of canning, dehydrating and freezing food and shares practical hints with her readers.

And then she shares how you can use your favorite fruits and vegetables to make hearty nutritious meals, wholesome snacks and inexpensive beverages. She also shows you how to disguise leftovers into delicious meals.

Winnie’s nine grandchildren enjoy spending time at the farm. She wants them to have fun and also learn to enjoy life and work. This cookbook includes fifty ways to help children feel important and to enjoy their work and play. She wants to help prepare them for a successful future.

When you have an abundance of apples, crabapples, rhubarb, berries, bananas, vegetables, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots etc, use them in many recipes or turn them into preserves to serve or use in recipes.

Did you know that many nutrients found in vegetables and fruits are lacking if produce is picked before it is ripe? That is a very good reason to have a garden or if you can’t, to buy freshly picked produce in summer.

Gardening provides Fresh Air and

can provide Fun for the whole family!
