GARDENING… CABBAGE PLANTS & BUGS

GARDENING . . . CABBAGE PLANTS & BUGS

I usually plant in a few cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli plants into our garden, hoping the bugs won’t attack, chew up the leaves and lay their egg in them before we get to enjoy these healthy vegetables.

This year I bought 4 dozen and am doing a trial. I read that one can sprinkle cayenne pepper on each plant to deter these bugs from cleaning up my crop and then forcing me to buy them in the store even during the summer.

Last summer I tried it on the few plants so this year I went all out and planted a dozen of each of these nutritious vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, red cabbage and green cabbage)

They are growing nicely, but I noticed a few leaves have tiny holes in, so I bought a cheaper bag of cayenne pepper last week, dumped the powder into an old cinnamon bottle with tiny holes in.

This morning at 5:30 I watered each plant and sprinkled on some of the cayenne pepper. We were hoping for rain, but seeing it didn’t come, I did the watering first so the powder would stick.

I will do this again a few more times I am sure and hope to enjoy the results!

Looking forward to this great harvest . . . Winnie
